Kevin Huerter's professional basketball career will start in Atlanta.

Huerter, the Shenendehowa High School product, was selected 19th overall in the first round by the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA Draft Thursday night. He entered the draft early after just two years at the University of Maryland.

Huerter led the Plainsmen to an NYSPHSAA state basketball championship as a junior, and was named New York's Mr. Basketball. He started in all 32 games as a sophomore at Maryland this past winter, averaging 14.8 points and 5 rebounds per game.
