Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday announced plans to spend up to $2 million for flood mitigation efforts and a stream restoration program in the village of Hoosick Falls.

The money is aimed at helping the community recover after flooding in July caused by a torrent of rain in the span of only a few hours.

“New York is no stranger to the damage that severe weather can inflict on communities, and time and time again, we have stepped up to provide real relief to families affected by storms,” Cuomo said. “This funding will give residents the resources they need to build back better and stronger as they recover from the flooding they experienced this summer.”

The village made the headlines for water problems as well after a contamination of the chemical PFOA was found in drinking water there; the village is currently seeking a permanent water source.

The program includes $1 million for purchasing and removing 13 structures damaged by flooding, $900,000 to implement infrastructure programs that can hold and slow flood waters and $182,000 to create a design for flood plain restoration in the area was impacted.
