BUFFALO, N.Y. -- It's a rare occurrence for Western New York — the vice president of the United States is visiting Tuesday. It will be Mike Pence's first stop in the area since becoming the Republican nominee last summer.

Air Force Two is scheduled to touch down at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport around 11:45 a.m. where the vice president will be available for a quick photo opportunity.

From there, it appears Pence will head to a fundraiser for Congressman Chris Collins, who was the first sitting member of Congress to endorse Donald Trump during the presidential election.

Collins and Pence also plan on touring a local manufacturing facility and a hosting a round table discussion around 1:15 p.m. Local elected officials, business leaders and families will participate. The topic is the administration's tax reform plan.

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer criticized the tax plan Monday in Washington, D.C. On the eve of the trip, he challenged the vice president to explain why it includes the elimination of the state and local tax deductible, which he said represents a hike for thousands of Upstate homeowners, decrease the value of homes and push business out of New York.

"The state and local deduction elimination is a dagger to the heart, not just of Buffalo, but of Rochester, Syracuse, Albany and all of Upstate New York. Will President Pence—Vice President Pence—have the courage to answer questions about this deduction elimination?" Schumer asked.

Gov. Cuomo sent a letter to Pence ahead of his trip also criticizing the proposed elimination of the so-called SALT deduction. He didn't stop there, also criticizing the administration's actions with regards to health care and proposed funding cuts to Medicaid, food stamps and low-income housing among other things.
