A TV ad released this weekend by the congressional campaign of Joe Morelle is a tribute to his daughter Lauren, who died last year after a battle with cancer.

And it’s a rallying cry: Morelle pledges in the spot to “fight like hell” to bolster health care while in Congress and prevent people from losing their insurance due to a pre-existing condition, calling her an inspiration and “a fighter.”

“I helped pass the law in New York that protects people with pre-existing conditions, and I’m really proud of that. Quality, affordable health care should be a right for everyone,” Morelle says in the ad.

“I’m running for Congress to stand up to Donald Trump and anyone else who would deny health insurance to people because they have a pre-existing condition like cancer. It won’t be easy, but I’ll fight like hell to make it happen – and Lauren showed me what it means to fight.”

Morelle, the Democratic Assembly majority leader, is running for the Rochester-area seat that was left open following the death of Rep. Louise Slaughter. He faces Republican Jim Maxwell in November.
