A fire broke out at the Spier Falls Dam near the border of Saratoga and Warren counties Saturday night.

The hydroelectric dam is located between the towns of Moreau and Lake Luzerne.

Brookfield Power officials say the fire did not damage the 120-year-old structure itself, but was contained to the company's hydroelectric power plant.

Officials say the powerhouse was lost in the fire and will need to be rebuilt before it becomes operational again.

Brookfield officials say there is no risk of flooding. They also say no one was injured.

"I'm sure that this week all the leadership at Brookfield are going to get together and start to go over what they need to do to put together a plan to examine the path forward," said Mark Luciano, stakeholder relations manager for NY at Brookfield Renewable U.S.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says that the plant produces about 56 megawatts of energy, powering an estimated 453,000 homes in the northeast.

Brookfield says utility companies managed to backfill that lost power from other sources and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

Investigators are still working to find what sparked that fire.
