Congressman Paul Tonko is one of the lawmakers now calling for Cuomo's resignation, calling the drama surrounding the governor "an unnecessary distraction during a critical time for all New Yorkers."

Tonko issued a statement saying:

"While I have previously called for an independent investigation, now underway, into serious and credible claims against Governor Cuomo, it has become clear the Governor has lost the public trust needed to effectively lead this state. I see no choice but to call for him to resign. For the sake of New York’s ongoing COVID recovery and the millions of New Yorkers who depend on strong, focused leadership from the state Capitol, Governor Cuomo must resign and hand the reins of state leadership to someone who can give the job their full, undivided focus.”
