The 61-year-old man struck by a Colonie police car should be released from the Albany Medical Center Hospital on Friday, according to the Colonie Police Department.
Late Thursday the department released a statement which named the individual injured and the officers invovled.
Police said the injured — now identified as William Wade of Latham — was crossing Route 9 after getting off a CDTA bus near Fiddler's Lane before he was hit just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
The man suffered a head laceration among other injuries. Police have also stated the officer — now identified as Officer Gerald Shaw — immediately stopped and called in the crash.
The officer was not injured but the man was reported as being taken to the Albany Medical Center.
"There is a crosswalk right there. That is something that's part of our investigation; trying to determine exactly where he was when he was struck," said Lt. Robert Donnelly, of the Colonie Police Department.
Officer Shaw is described by Colonie PD as a K-9 handler with more than 21 years of service as a Colonie officer. His partner, Vader, was also onboard during the crash but was not injured, said Colonie PD.
The road was closed for more than an hour with police reporting alcohol was not a factor.
