It was a messy trip to work Wednesday morning for most people trying to avoid the Northway.
By the afternoon, it was much smoother compared to what drivers saw just a few hours earlier. Cars were crawling down the Northway during the morning commute.
The Clifton Park Fire Department responded to a car fire on the Northway — and that wasn't the only issue.
Icy road conditions and several crashes made a mess of the Northway, which was also the case for many roads in the Capital Region. Dozens of crashes were reported throughout the area, and the Patroon Island Bridge was even temporarily closed.
