Officers say people are making drugs like marijuana and meth into candy-form items like lollipops, gummy bears and "Smarties."

They say the best way to avoid your child coming into contact with drugs is thoroughly checking their candy immediately after trick-or-treating.

Be aware if the candy is already opened and the color and size of the candy. These drugs may imitate candy, but there's a difference in color and size.

You should also trick-or-treat in neighborhoods that you are familiar with.

Health officials say that children should go trick-or-treating on a full stomach to avoid eating candy before it's checked.
