The fallout continues in Cohoes after staff at the city's deep-rooted Community Center announced a shutdown Thursday.

The state’s Department of Labor met Monday with Center employees who lost their jobs. They're aiming to make sure those employees still have benefits and health insurance.

More than 70 people who worked at the Center, either full- or part-time, are also being pointed to other job openings.

Assemblyman John McDonald spoke to the community center’s board Sunday. He says he believes the finances just got out of hand, and the revenue wasn’t coming in.

They’re now trying to discuss the next steps, which may include selling the building, or finding a new community partner.

"The board members are people from the community," McDonald said. "They care. And listen, it can happen. This type of thing can happen, and let’s just try to put our best face forward and go forward. Get something done."

The Cohoes city school district says it will continue to offer before and after school services for children throughout the week.
