Voters in the Guilderland School District defeated a proposed $42.7 million capital construction project.

The totals were 1368 no votes to 1309 in favor.

That proposal would have provided for upgrades on seven of the district's aging buildings.

Some at the polls who spoke with Spectrum News say the amount was too steep, while others called it a necessary investment for the future.

"We're older adults, we don't have any children in the district and we feel are taxes are high enough, so you know we came out and voted,” said Bruce O'Keefe, Guilderland resident.

"I think a lot of it is building upgrades and stuff, security and that's going to be important to make sure there is a safe learning environment for everyone,” said Dawson and Cassandra Caputo, Guilderland residents.

The capital improvement plan included funding for safety upgrades and new security cameras.
