For aspiring FBI agents, perhaps the most difficult part of the application process is the physical fitness test. Half of all applicants fail the first time they take it. On Thursday, the FBI field office in Albany invited members of the media to see if they have what it takes. Reporter Terry Stackhouse accepted the challenge.

For people pursuing a career with the agency, practice before taking the test is a must. To help, the FBI recently released an app, Fit Test Mobile, to help educate people about the fitness requirements.

To pass, applicants need to score 12 points in total, earning points in four categories: sit-ups, a 300-meter sprint, push-ups, and a 1.5-mile run.

The agents who ran this test say they’re looking to hire up to 1,000 new agents over the next year, and this app might help applicants be better prepared for the rigors of the job.

“The app is phenomenal, because now you can go on it, if you’re interested in joining the FBI and you look at it, you can go out and start doing it,” said Darren Semprebon, FBI Special Agent, Albany Division. "They actually have pre-tests on there that you can go on and do it and time yourself with it, so you know what you’re getting into now."

Of all the reporters who showed up, only one passed the test.

That reporter was not Terry.
