At 6:38 p.m., I’m going to say I will be shocked if this isn’t a good game.

At 9:33 p.m., I was right, but I would have been shocked if you told me a total of 21 points would be scored.  Shaker remains unbeaten with the 14-7 win over Shenendehowa.

Going in we knew both offenses could put up a lot of points, but it was the defenses that really showed up.

Shaker has a big group of talented running backs, but the air went out of the stadium with sophomore standout running back Jovani Wiggs had to be carted off the field with a serious leg injury. Both sidelines were silent for ten minutes while the trainers attended to Wiggs.

Shaker quarterback Connor McHugh told his guys after the injury they were playing for Wiggs and we are going to win for him.

"It feels great you know, and you know once Jovani went down, we knew we were going to do it for him,” said McHugh. “And you know I said to the guys like Step it up. Like we were at the lead at the time but I knew that Shen was going to give us a fight and I told the guys we got to pull this one up for him."

They did just that.  McHugh scored the go ahead TD for Shaker with about 3 minutes to go in the game and the defense stepped up one more time.

After the win Greg Sheeler, the Shake Head Coach, talked about how tough it is to lose a player like Wiggs and how great of a kid he is.

"Jovani is a great team player obviously and he had made some great plays for us this year,” Sheeler said. “Unfortunately, he did get hurt but I'm so proud of our kids and how they responded and handled that situation."

We have other good teams in the AA’s that will try to prevent this, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see these two teams meet again in the Class AA Super Bowl on November 2nd.
