The Capital Region continues to remember and honor first responders who lost their lives on 9/11.

Dozens of local firefighters, first responders and military personnel were among the many participating in Sunday’s annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Stair Climb at the Corning Tower.

Siller, an off-duty firefighter on 9/11, lost his life after running to the World Trade Center, carrying over 60 pounds of gear.

Proceeds from the climb will go towards helping injured service members build smart homes.

“I don’t think a lot of people understand that of what they do for us, I didn’t climb it with gear it’s a very tough climb and I'm a runner too,” said participant Don Miller. “I can only imagine climbing it with gear, it's amazing, it's an amazing thing what they do.”
