ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany police are calling a violent attack that happened on Central Avenue and Lexington Avenue on Saturday afternoon a hate crime.
Hubert Dabbs now is facing second-degree attempted murder charges.
Police say the attack was based on the victim's sexual orientation.
A person who works at a nearby corner store, Sham Candy & Groceries, shot a video on his cellphone showing the moments leading up to Dabbs' arrest.
Authorities do believe Dabbs knew his victim, though the exact relationship is unknown at this point.
Police also said they believe Dabbs suffers from mental illness.
Police say the victim's injuries are non-life threatening at this time.
