We're learning more about the criminal past of the man accused of stabbing his wife inside a Colonie salon Thursday night.

Thomas Caulfield was arraigned Friday morning on attempted murder charges.

Police say Caulfield walked into the Beauty and Bliss Salon on Central Avenue Thursday, and stabbed his wife Denise in the abdomen and arms.

People inside the salon flagged down two men driving by the scene. They were able to stop the attack.

Police say Denise is an employee at the salon. Scotia Police tell us Caulfield was arrested in June for ramming Denise's car while she was inside and threatening to kill her and her family.

A restraining order was issued but domestic abuse experts at the unity house in troy say protection of abuse orders can sometimes heighten a situation.

"Perpetrators are really good at figuring out what's important to them and how they can use that against them," said Tabitha Dunn, Director of Unity House.

As of Thursday night, Denise Caulfield was in the ICU. There is no update on her condition.
