SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — A 3-year-old girl is in critical condition after being hit by a car Saturday night in Schenectady.

Police say she was hit around 6:40 p.m. in the 900 block of State Street.

Investigators say that speed, drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

Sgt. Matthew Dearing, the Schenectady Police Department’s public information officer, says all parties are cooperating with investigators.

"As you can see right now, we still do have the street closed and our accident investigators are on scene, taking photographs and speaking to as many people as possible to determine what transpired here. We do know that the vehicle that struck the female was traveling west on State Street. That driver did stay and has been fully cooperative,” said Dearing.

He added that a large crowd approached the driver after the incident, adding to the chaotic scene.

State Street has since reopened.
