SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- City Hall has been closed since lightning struck it during Friday night’s storms. The mayor says the city is in full work mode. Crews have been on scene around the clock, trying to salvage what they can.

The strike started a small fire, which caused significant water damage to the building.

An insurance inspector is expected to evaluate the damage. Meanwhile, the city is working in accordance to its emergency plan. Most operations are being run out of the recreation building as crews continue the clean-up.

"Every single city department is facing a challenge. Resourcefulness, collaboration, and hard work was given by everyone. I am pleased and proud of everyone’s effort to work through this challenge together," Mayor Meg Kelly said.

It’s unclear exactly how long city hall will be closed. The hope is to get 90 percent of the city government up and running off site by Wednesday.
