ALBANY, N.Y. -- A typical protest is marked with cheers and chants, but demonstrators in Albany took a stand for health care in silence Monday.

Advocates rallied outside a county legislature meeting in support of a paid sick time for all.

The proposal aims to help an estimated 40 percent of private sector workers who don't get any paid sick days.

The plan, however, has seen some pushback from local businesses who say paying those days can be a big burden.

Demonstrators said its benefit adds up.

"People are unable to pay their bills, and their rent if they have to take time off for being sick. The companies they work for, they are the backbone of those companies and they helped build those companies up,” said protester Donna Ross.

Organizers say this won't be their last protest. They plan to attend these legislature meetings every month until the law is passed.
