COLONIE, N.Y. — More information has been released about a high-speed police chase and crash on Central Avenue in Colonie.
Police say it all started when an officer spotted a Cadillac racing down the center median, near Jupiter Lane.
They say 28-year-old Tommy Ehlers of Schenectady was at the wheel.
The officer turned on his lights and went after him, while the Cadillac reached over 100 miles per hour.
Ehlers ended up colliding with another squad car near Dott Avenue.
"I heard like a loud crash and dragging sound, like someone was dragging a large piece of metal, as I looked at the car I realized that's exactly what happened and the whole front of the car was dragging across the ground," said Ricky Carter, who witnessed the crash.
The officer in the squad car that was hit has been treated for injuries at the hospital.
Police say Ehlers refused treatment.
He was arrested and faces multiple charges, including assault and driving while ability impaired by drugs.
The stretch of Central Avenue was shut down for several hours while police reconstructed the crash.
