A business card doesn’t do an artist much good. So Tom Myott paints, in public, to make an impression. The energy of opening day inspires his work.

“There’s a certain energy and life that you can’t get anywhere else,” said Myott.

It’s an energy not easily described. But Myott knows it when he feels it.

“To be down here and part of it, it is electric, seriously,” Myott said.

The start of track season coincides with the opening of Myott’s art show inside Silverwood Gallery.  It’s a chance for this South Glens Falls High School art teacher to show off his work.

“I am desperately anticipating the opening day of track. Enjoying what is going to happen here with the festivity of people coming back from the track this evening, having dinner, the city streets will be full,” said Myott.

His relationship with the gallery dates back 15 years. It’s an annual opportunity to reconnect with longtime fans.

“The visitors here overhear those conversations and further engage with Tom,” said Deborah DePasquale, owner of Saratoga Heritage.

Myott’s passion for thoroughbred racing may only be eclipsed by his love for the culture of the Spa City. For this educator and artist, there’s nowhere else he’s rather be on opening day than downtown.

“This is where I’d rather be because I’m not losing money. I am enjoying partaking in it and in my own experience,” said Myott.
