The city of Albany, already looking for a new police chief, will now seek a new fire chief.

Current Chief Warren Abriel Jr. has announced his retirement, effective July 28. He was set to hit mandatory retirement age in January, but decided to retire early to enjoy the summer with his family.

Abriel has served with the fire department for 46 years, the last four of those as chief.

Mayor Kathy Sheehan said she will announce a new chief in the coming weeks.
