COHOES, N.Y. — Fire crews worked for hours on Euclid Street in Cohoes Tuesday after NH Kelman Scrap Recycling went up into flames.

The facility melts scrap metal, which means inside are a number of products that caused a series of small explosions. Those elements, plus the excessive heat, posed a danger to firefighters.

Extra units were called in from neighboring cities to assist, as well as foam trucks from Albany International Airport.

No one has been seriously injured.

A senior center across the street was evacuated.

The road was also closed for several hours.
