The crews setting it all up are putting in the hard work and sweat Tuesday setting up for the annual Independence Day celebration at the Empire State Plaza.

Around 10,000 fireworks will light up the sky over the plaza Wednesday, launching just after 9 p.m. Earlier in the day, a naturalization ceremony will be held, as well as a concert headlined by 1990s alternative rock band Smash Mouth.

The fireworks show takes months of work, according to organizers.

"Everyone loves the finale the best. It’s the last thing and we really hammer it home," said pyrotechnic John Flanagan.

While organizers embrace all the sunshine for the holiday's fun, they also say they're taking steps to guard against health issues in the heavy heat. Soft sided coolers will be allowed in the plaza. Cooling tents will be set up to help cool down any spectators. They also ask that pet owners keep their pets at home.
