An Albany common councilor is under fire after sharing pictures last night of two emergency medical workers double parked in front of a Stewart's store.

Judy Doesschate says she's been battling traffic problems in her neighborhood during her past four and a half years on the council. She says she saw two workers parked on New Scotland Avenue Monday night in front of a Stewart's. She hoped her post would bring awareness to illegal parking and pedestrian safety in the area.

Since she's made the post, she says it's really backfired, drawing nearly 3,000 comments. Doesschate removed the post Tuesday.

Spectrum News reached out to Mohawk Ambulance, who sent a statement on behalf of company president James P. McPartlon:

"A member of the City of Albany’s Common Council posted a Facebook message yesterday which featured two Mohawk Ambulance Service employees at a convenience store and their ambulance parked outside. Our employees are instructed to have their emergency service vehicles readily accessible at all times, in the event that they are dispatched to a call that requires their immediate departure.

Mohawk Ambulance fully stands behind the employees pictured in the councilor’s post and regrets that they were falsely depicted in a negative manner. We want to take this opportunity to thank all of our dedicated employees for their hard work on behalf of the persons we serve, their colleagues and this organization."

As for the councilwoman, she says she regrets her post has lost its original meaning. She says she has a tremendous amount of respect for EMS workers and even claims she would be happy to buy those two workers a cup of coffee.
