SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Last year, the Schenectady County Legislature voted to ban all fireworks in the county. But now the city is considering to take it a step further by enforcing its own penalty.

The Schenectady City Council is considering a bill that would fine individuals up $250 for each illegal firework launched. In addition, the measure would also allow police officers to seize the fireworks.

“There’s a lot of concern over potential fires, issues with animals, of course PTSD," said Councilman John Polimeni, who introduced the bill. "It’s a quality of life issue."

The public hearing and vote will take place Monday 7 p.m. at city hall. If approved, cops will be able to enforce the fines this July 4th.
