CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. – More than 60 acres of park land will be forever preserved thanks to a land transfer between Saratoga County and the town of Clifton Park.

Board of Supervisors Chairman Ed Kinowski and Town Supervisor Phil Barrett signed the deed to official transfer ownership of the Kinns Road Park to the town of Clifton Park Thursday morning.

With several miles of trails, the densely wooded park is used year-round by walkers, hikers, cross country skiers.

The land transfer -- which cost the town nothing -- was put in motion about three years ago after many residents grew upset over a county plan to sell some of the trees to a timber company for a profit.

"As of today, the town of Clifton Park owns Kinns Road Park, and I think that’s a wonderful prospect for our future,” Barrett said.

"It’s a great thing to offer, as was said, not just to the local residents but everyone in the area, including as a tourist attraction,” Kinowski said.

Town and county officials say a change to the state’s home rule law made the free land transfer possible.
