PETERSBURGH, N.Y. -- For about 50 years, Pete Dubacher has been taking in birds, allowing visitors to have a peek. But occasionally, it's the birds that want to see the world.

Charles, a 22-year-old emu, is no acception. He recently got loose, and those at the Berkshire Bird Paradise have been trying to find him. It's believed he hasn't traveled too far from the sanctuary.

Charles is known to be friendly, and according to those who watch after him, he enjoys having his back rubbed and is extremely friendly.

"As long as we don't push him, chase after him, he's fine," says Dubacher, the director at Berkshire Bird Paradise.

Charles has actually done this before, escaping from his enclosure while they continue construction on new enclosures at the sanctuary.
