For over a century, GE has been a part of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. But that electric run is ending.
On Tuesday, Dow Jones announced that General Electric will be removed by next Tuesday, and replaced with Walgreens.
GE is an original member of the Dow Jones and was a part of it for 111 straight years. More than 40,000 employees swarmed the Schenectady plant in the mid 1900s, but today, that number has shrunk to 5,000.
Albany Investment Advisor Hugh Johnson says GE's removal from the Dow is a clear indication that the times are changing, and GE isn’t keeping up.
"I see they’ve got a strategy. I hope it works, not only for General Electric, but obviously for the people in Schenectady," Johnson said.
