SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Denise Polit was home working on the computer when a severe storm impacted the Spa City. When she came outside, Polit found a large branch had snapped off and took out a section of her brand new fence along Clinton Street.

"All of a sudden it was like all hell broke loose," Polit said.

Polit says it all happened at around four o'clock Monday afternoon. She says the storm lasted about 10 minutes, causing damage and knocking out power across Saratoga Springs.

"That's when we knew it was more powerful storm than we had thought," Polit said.

Over at the intersection of Lawrence Street and Railroad Alley, a large tree toppled over and blocked a portion of the road for several hours before crews cleaned it up.

According to National Grid, at one point more than 9,000 customers were without power in Saratoga County.

"All of a sudden huge gusts of wind, a lot of rain and it came and went just like this," said Lauren Perry, who lives up the road on Lawrence Street.

She came home to find a large tree knocked over on her shed just inches from the swing set in the backyard.

"I'm hoping it really just missed the swing set and the shed and it's just a really big tree down on the back," Perry said.

It took crews most of the late afternoon to clean up this mess. These storm damages were a first for both Polit and Perry.

"It's going to take a lot of work but it should be done soon," Perry said.
