Former Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner has announced she will in fact run for governor.

Miner made the announcement on Twitter just after 6 a.m. saying:

Earlier this spring, speculation began of a possible run, as Miner toured the state, and created her own Twitter Handle "Miner for NY."

The move to join the race on the independent line makes sense, with petitioning for the Democratic primary already underway.

According to the New York Times, Miner will run under the banner of an upstart group called "the Serve America Movement."

She will have to petition to get on the ballot, but that process for independents doesn't begin until July 10.

Republican nominee Marc Molinaro is welcoming Miner into the governor's race, while taking a jab at the governor himself. He released a statement Monday morning, saying:

"As yet another criminal corruption trial involving the Cuomo Administration kicks off in federal court today, it comes as little surprise that this is now a four-way contest.

Governor Cuomo’s corrupt and disastrous pay-to-play policies have cost New York taxpayers billions of dollars they can’t afford.

The Cuomo corruption holding New York back from reaching its true economic potential must end."
