NORTH CAROLINA -- A developer is suing German grocery store Lidl after the chain canceled plans to open several stores in North Carolina.

  • Lidl originally planned to open stores in Cary, Charlotte and Wilmington.
  • A lawsuit filed by Leon Capital Group reveals the deal was terminated.
  • Lidl currently has several stores across the state.

The plan for North Carolina stores included Cary, Charlotte and Wilmington.

In a federal lawsuit filed last week, Leon Capital Group argues that Lidl asked the developer to acquire tracts of land for the stores before terminating the deal last November.

Leon Capital Group is now seeking relief for the money it was already spent on the project along with punitive damages.

Lidl currently has stores across the state in Raleigh, Wake Forest, Thomasville, Gastonia, Rocky Mount and several other locations.
