LATHAM, N.Y. — Veterans from across the region were reunited Saturday—50 years after their initial deployment.

Members of the 1018th Service and Support Company of the Army Reserve gathered at the Colonie Elks Lodge in Latham for a special reunion.

The Welcome Home Again party provided war buddies with an opportunity to catch up and also honor the lives of those who weren't able to make it back from their time in the trenches.

"We had gone on with our lives and now we're just coming back to celebrate and honor ourselves for the service to this country. We had some pay the ultimate price for going there and we want to honor them also tonight,” said Vietnam War veteran Frank Merges.

The 1018th was deployed in Vietnam, operating heavy trucks transporting jet fuel, food, clothing and other supplies.
