An 11-year-old girl died after a fallen tree crushed an SUV in Newburgh on Tuesday.

Police say it happened around 4:15 p.m. on Robinson Avenue. The girl and her mother had just arrived home when high winds toppled a tree onto the vehicle.

Firefighters were able to free the girl, and rushed her to St. Luke's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The girl's mother suffered only minor injuries.
