NISKAYUNA, N.Y. -- There was an early morning crash on Balltown Road in Niskyauna Tuesday.

Police originally received a 911 call for a car into a pole, but when they arrived on the scene they found a car and no driver.

They eventually tracked down the alleged driver after a couple hours, who they say is the boyfriend of the registered owner’s daughter.

They said he admitted to speeding and having a phone in his hand when he hit the pole.

Police say that he is lucky to be alive after he was able to get out of the car uninjured – with live wires on top of the vehicle.

The driver was found in Saratoga County, and has been ticketed for speeding, and distracted driving.

Traffic will continue to be impacted while crews clean up the scene.
