TROY, N.Y. -- Having your business on the Hudson River can be a major advantage, but it can also pose a major risk, one that Sen. Charles Schumer is trying to mitigate in Troy.

Flanked by those business owners, Schumer announced a $24 million project to reconstruct and repair Troy's seawall, badly damaged during Tropical Storm Irene in 2011.

This project will better protect riverfront property and business owners from tropical storms, flooding and ice jams.

Gary Brown, who owns the popular Brown's Brewery, said he has constant concerns about flooding every time there's a major storm in the forecast.

"Two major floods, one near floods, and a lot of close calls makes you feel uneasy every time you have a long period of rain or something," Brown said.

"Residents and business owners deserve peace of mind knowing that every time there's a major storm, they're going to be safe," Schumer said.

The current seawall was built in 1922.
