ALBANY, N.Y. — There were mothers everywhere you looked on the final day of the Tulip Festival at Washington Park, but only one mom left as the 'Mother of the Year.'

Wilton mother June MacClelland is the executive director at AIM Services, and was nominated for volunteering at several nonprofits and for her loving relationship with her daughter Megan.

“She’s 30 years old. She has Down syndrome. She’s on the autism spectrum. She’s a beautiful child," said MacClelland.

MacClelland beat out four other finalists, each as deserving as the next.

“Being a mother means unconditionally loving, and you’re just there. Period. End of statement," said MacClelland. “I’m shocked, just absolutely shocked. And so thrilled.”

All finalists were awarded a gift basket and flowers.

The final day of the Tulip Festival drew thousands of people to Washington Park.
