SNEADS FERRY, N.C. -- Sixty-two-year old John William Price Jr. was led into the Onslow County Courthouse on Thursday, making his first appearance after being charged with killing a man over his estranged wife.

  • Victim is 54-year-old Wayne Curry, Jr.
  • Estranged wife way staying at residence with the victim.
  • Price in jail with no bond; court appearance is May 31.

"Deputies discovered a deceased individual inside the residence and the subject was taken into custody without incident," said Major Chris Thomas with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim is 54-year-old Wayne Franklin Curry, Jr.

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office says Price shot and killed Curry during a dispute Wednesday night at the Harbor Point RV Community in Sneads Ferry.

"It was domestic related,” said Thomas. "The suspect's estranged wife was staying at that residence with the victim and that appears to be the motive behind the situation."

The sheriff's office says Price and his wife have only been separated for less than a month.

After hearing gunshots, some nearby residents responded, holding Price at gunpoint until deputies arrived.

"There were several when the deputies arrived but mainly the one next door neighbor was the one that confronted the suspect when he was leaving the residence and he was the one that detained him," said Thomas.

Price will remain in the Onslow County Detention Center under no bond.

His next court date is set for May 31.

During the first appearance, Price asked to be assigned a court-appointed attorney.
