ROTTERDAM, N.Y. --  The driver in Tuesday morning's crash in Rotterdam is facing DWI charges.

Police say 27-year-old Michael Edwards of Schenectady was speeding on Altamont Avenue around 1:15 a.m.

An officer was trying to pull Edwards over for speeding, but then allegedly lost him until he saw the crash scene at Gabriel's supermarket.

Authorities say Edwards was going more than 60 miles per hour, which is double the speed limit on that road.

Edwards was airflited to Albany Medical Center with critical injuries. Two female passengers were also seriously injured. Their condition is unknown.

Police say more charges are possible against the driver.

“At this point we’re obviously hoping for the best for the recovery of these occupants of the vehicle and were going to continue to investigate," said Rotterdam Police Lieutenant Jeff Collins.

Anyone with information or anyone who saw the crash is asked to call Rotterdam police.
