Empire State Development announced that Belgioioso Cheese has a plan to build a new facility in Glenville.

One of the nation's largest speciality cheese producers plans on building a new 100,000 square foot manufacturing facility in the Glenville Business and Technology Park. Once open, Belgioioso says it'll create nearly 50 jobs.

Town and county officials are optimistic about the positive economic impact that the new facility will have on the community.

"When companies see that they can locate in Schenectady and they will be treated well and in New York, a governor that supports these kind of projects makes it easier to bring the next one in," said Schenectady County Legislature Majority Leader Gary Hughes.

"It's a great boost for the residents, it's a tax base boost as well, and a $25 million investment in town is a great boost in the budget," said Glenville Supervisor Christopher Koetzle.

Along with job growth, the company will purchase its water from the town and milk from local New York dairy farmers.

Once the plan is approved, work could potentially start as soon as this summer.
