Voters in Ballston have voted no to a new public sewer system in their district.

Residents voiced concerns ahead of a referendum vote for the $15.8 million project, since most of the funding would come out of their pockets.

The project was proposed to be along Route 50 in Burnt Hills, and was expected to affect 527 properties. The sewer project would cost property owners $926 per year for each connection, on top of a $3,500 to $10,000 one-time hook up fee.

The town supervisor said the project was needed from an environmental standpoint. Residents Wednesday night disagreed.

Only the property owners in that district were eligible to vote in this referendum.
