After a yearlong hiatus, the Menands Baseball League is back in action.

Volunteers cleaned and set up new equipment at the Ganser Smith Memorial Field Saturday morning.

This year the league received a $3,500 donation from the electrical workers union, IBEW Local 236, as well as money from other local sponsors.

Donations have helped cut registration costs for 30 Little Leaguers and 70 Tee-ballers, and will help purchase new bleachers.

"Well that's what it's all about,” said Menands Baseball League President Paul Nylin. “To see the kids smiling and you want to have a league for them and we want to keep baseball in the village of Menands so that's what we're here to do."

Opening season begins next Saturday, April 21. The season will run for seven weeks, with games every Saturday.
