The location of a proposed Holocaust memorial generated lots of back-and-forth discussion at a Tuesday night public hearing in Niskayuna.

A local doctor presented his plans for the memorial before a packed room of residents. Dr. Michael Lozman wants a permit to build the memorial on Route 7 near the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.

A lengthy public comment period followed, with the line stretching out the door. In that line included a man who survived the Holocaust. He says it's a critical part of history that needs to be passed down to young people.

"It must never happen again," said Marian Rosenbloom. "How are they going to learn it? One way to do it is proposed here."

The next town board meeting is scheduled for April 24. That's the earliest a decision would come down.
