Disc golf was the sport of choice for 72 athletes in Niskayuna Saturday, converging on Blatnik Park for a disc golf tournament.

It's a milestone for the park as it's the first Professional Disc Golf Association sanctioned tournament to be held there since the course expanded last June.

Organizers say it's a longtime in the making.

"I just happened to be driving by this park and I saw kids throwing discs away from themselves. They weren't throwing them to anyone,” said Kanji Cline, the tournament’s director. “It caught my curiosity and I drove up and saw these baskets here and followed these guys around and learned the sport at 17 and came back the following weekend and bought used discs off this guy and got hooked."
