ALBANY, N.Y. -- Amid the ongoing water quality crisis that has impacted areas throughout New York state, the health department is stepping in to make sure contaminated water is not overlooked again.

Monday afternoon's meeting of the state's Drinking Water Quality Council will focus on discussions about what the New York State Health Department should do moving forward.

The council will speak about recommendations to set enforceable maximum contaminant levels in drinking water.

The recommendations are for three contaminants -- PFOA, PFOS and 1,4-dioxane -- all of which are currently unregulated by the federal government.

This meeting comes after previous discussions about how to regulate the chemicals, blood testing, and guidance levels set by other states.

The local communities in the area that are dealing with these contaminants include Hoosick Falls, Petersburg and Nassau.

The video conference meeting is open to the public and there will be a comment session.

Albany’s meeting location is in Corning Tower at the Empire State Plaza from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
