A Schenectady reverend is launching a new program focused on shining a light on crime in his community.

James Bookhout, pastor of Bridge Christian Church, is urging residents in the Mont Pleasant community to light their homes at night.

“When you keep the light on in your house as a neighbor, you’re gonna keep a lot of the problems recessed in your neighborhood, at least hopefully anyway," said Pastor Bookhout.

He says all you need is a single LED bulb and to help with that, the church is partnering with Wolberg Electric Supply Company.

The business will be donating bulbs to the community in an effort to light up the neighberhoods in Mont Pleasant.

Schenectady Police say the program, is a bright idea.

“Bad guys don’t want to do bad things in areas that are well lit," said Sgt. Nick Mannix.

The first 200 people to give the church a call or sign up on their website will recieve a free LED bulb.
