After a half-century, the Troy Flag Day Parade is no more.

The city's Flag Day committee announced after a unanimous vote that the iconic parade will cease operations in 2018. This comes following a steady decline of attendance in the last six years and the loss of World War II, Korean War and Vietnam veterans which drive the patriotic spirit in the annual parade.

But the Flag Day parade will be remembered. The city is planning to construct a permanent flag pole and monument at the end of the parade route on Fourth Street in downtown Troy.
