The man who ia accused of starting a massive fire that devastated the city of Cohoes in November of last year has pleaded not guilty. 

The Albany County District Attorney says John Gomes was arraigned in county court Wednesday morning for arson.

Gomes is accused of setting the fire that ended up destroying several buildings on Remsen Street in Cohoes.

Gomes was arrested by police the night of the fire and officials say he set a fire in a barrel behind his home trying to create a home forge.

The DA's Office says Gomes pleaded not guilty and was released.
