SCHENECTADYH, N.Y. — Schenectady County remains under a flood warning as residents there are cleaning up. The flood waters receded early Thursday morning and the level of the Mohawk River has lowered significantly.

The local residents are used to flooding, but that doesn’t make dealing with it any easier. All along the Mohawk River, the sight to see is ice.

"Last night was the kicker I’ll say. We saw it come up even higher," said Bob Ritter, Schenectady resident.

The problems that come with the winter water conditions aren’t unusual to Schenectady, but they are unwelcome

"It’s bad all the time," Ritter said.

Ice jams combined with warm temperatures caused flooding in the city’s Stockade District on Wednesday.

"It headed up higher and really flooded the cellars," Ritter said.

Residents feeling the effects Thursday morning as they pumped water out of their homes. Ritter has lived on Ingersoll Avenue his entire life and now owns three properties on the street

"We have incidents like this, but this is occurring too regularly," he said. "Something should be done."

As cleanup is underway, some may wonder why residents choose to live in a spot that’s prone to flooding.

"You have tennis courts, you have swings for kids, you have a bike path now to go far," Ritter said.

Focusing on the positive side to living along the river, hoping this is the last flood of the year
