Olympic bobsledder Codie Bascue is across the world competing, but he's inspiring people in the Capital Region.

All eyes were on Bascue Sunday at Whitehall High School, where a watch party was held.

And it isn't just Bascue's alma mater.

The entire town is decked out with signs of support and encouragement.

Community members watching Sunday said they're proud to see a Whitehall native in the Olympics.

"He inspires me to be the best me, don't care what people think about you. Just do your best," said Louie Pratt, a Whitehall Middle School seventh grader.

"And that’s the really cool part, kids are surprised he walked through these halls. ‘He was a student here?’ It’s been an extra motivation for the kids," said Topher Montville, Codie’s Junior High guidance counselor.

Bascue finished 25th in the two-man bobsledding run Sunday morning, and he has another chance to go for gold this Friday in the four-man sled event.

The high school has scheduled a watch party to cheer him on again.
